Director of Architecture Position

Overview

Module is actively hiring a Director of Architecture who can lead our pre-construction efforts, perform construction administration both on site and in the factory, and play a role as a leader and provide business development support. Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Responsibilities

Lead Pre-Construction Efforts

  • Serve as Module’s Architect of Record on projects

  • Lead development of Permit Drawings; review and stamp drawings for building permits in jurisdictions in which you are licensed (Pittsburgh primarily)

  • Lead development of construction documents to ensure local GC partners and factory partners understand scope.

  • Lead client communication between Module and client during pre-construction phase

  • Create, maintain & distribute schedules for projects during pre-construction

  • Review surveys, geotech reports, drawings, submittals and assist in coordinating with third party engineers for site, civil, and infrastructure plans

  • Hire and manage design partners as needed (architect, civil, structural, building science/HERS rater, solar)

  • Review & Execute contracts with all design partners.

  • Work with all parties to make sure plans, specs, and scopes are correct and done on time

Serve Supporting Role in Construction Efforts (20%)

  • Conduct Construction Administration based on Module’s scope of work, submitting progress & quality assessment reports at specified intervals throughout the project

  • Participate in the financial analysis and tracking for all construction projects

Leadership, Operations & Business Development (20%)

  • Manage Module’s lead designer

  • Participate & advise on the strategic direction of the company.

    • Assist in establishing KPI’s for Module’s projects alongside the Construction Project Manager.

    • Assist in onboarding and managing Module’s ‘Network of Design Partners’ (local architects in various markets).

    • Participate in development of Standard Operating Procedures for Construction & Development Processes. This “Playbook / manual will serve as the Go-To-Guide for Module projects.

    • Provide Guidance to Lead Designer for standardization of Module Designs.

    • Speak at Conferences, Webinars, & represent Module at certain events

Qualifications & Requirements 

  • Must be licensed as an Architect in the state of Pennsylvania

  • 10 + years of Architecture experience required; residential experience is strongly preferred

  • Experience performing construction administration is required

  • Preference for experience with offsite & high performance design

  • Must be organized and detail oriented with a strong ability to manage projects and people

  • Must be comfortable working in a startup environment

  • Proficiency in creating construction schedules and experience developing scopes of work for various subcontractors is nice to have

  • Familiarity with Pittsburgh’s Permitting Process is encouraged​

Compensation

  • Base Salary Range: $90K - $110K

  • Equity Stock Options 

  • 50% of your health insurance premium is covered by Module
